Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani will be elected prime minister of Pakistan by the National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) on Monday. His Pakistan People s Party (PPP) formally nominated Gillani as the prime ministerial candidate Saturday night. PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari announced Gillani's nomination in a statement, which was read out by party spokesman Farhatullah Babar to the reporters. The PPP finalized Zardari's name after consultations with coalition parties. Zardari thanked Gillani for accepting the great responsibility of becoming the premier and wished him success in discharging his duties with responsibility. Nawaz Sharif s Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and Awami National Party (ANP) will vote for Gillani. Gillani, the former speaker of the National Assembly, will be elected prime minister on Monday and will take oath of office the following day.
