Twelve members of a single family are reported to have been killed in a road accident near the Zimbabwean capital Harare, according to dpa. The 12 were killed after their Land Rover collided with a bus south of the capital Harare, said today the state- controlled Herald newspaper. Five of the dead were children. Three other passengers aboard the Land Rover were seriously injured. The driver of the bus was also seriously injured, but passengers escaped with a few minor injuries. Witnesses quoted by the paper said the Land Rover tried to swerve around a vehicle that had stopped on its side of the road and entered into the path of the oncoming bus. "The Land Rover was speeding and as the driver tried to avoid the Peugeot that was blocking the road, he swerved and encroached onto the lane with oncoming traffic at a time when the Mhunga bus was approaching," witness Kennedy Chigogo told the paper.
