An earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale hit Aleutian Islands at 0940 GMT Wednesday, Xinhua quoted the Hong Kong Observatory as reporting. The epicenter was initially determined to be 51.3 degrees north latitude, 179.4 degrees east longitude, about 920 kilometers west-southwest of Unalaska Island, the United States. The earthquake sparked a tsunami warning in some Alaskan coastal areas. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
