Mexican security police seized more than 23 tonnes of Columbian-produced cocaine in the Pacific port of Manzanillo - one of the largest one-time hauls ever taken in Mexico, according to dpa. The illegal drugs were valued at 600 million dollars, Mexican prosecutors said. The seizure took place on Wednesday, according to media reports on Friday quoting the prosecutor. The drugs were packed in small bags of a kilogramme or more, intermingled with a cargo of soap being carried by a Hong-Kong registered ship. One of the containers remained to be investigated, meaning the amount of the haul could be increased. The ship, Esmeralda, was under guard by 530 MExican soldiers and police. Prosecutors did not say whether there had been any arrests. Mexico is the major conduit to the United States for drugs from Columbia and elsewhere in Latin America.
