Bulgarian border police seized 25 illegal Iraqi migrants on Friday hiding in a truck destined for Germany, and arrested the driver, a man believed to be an Albanian national carrying forged Greek identification, according to dpa. Police said that the Iraqi citizens were found in the trailer of the truck, which was in very poor condition, adding that the trailer was badly ventilated and they could have suffocated, if they had stayed in it a while longer. The Iraqis entered the truck in Athens and claimed to have paid a Greek citizen 5,000 euros (7,245 dollars) each to enter Greece by land and sea routes. Police said that the driver had a forged Greek driver's license and vehicle registration. Bulgarian and Greek authorities announced a joint investigation of human trafficking activity between the two countries, aimed at severing smuggling channels throughout the region.
