A Russian civilian helicopter has gone missing in a remote Arctic province, transport officials said Monday, and rescuers are searching for its six crew members. Radio contact with the Mi-8 helicopter was lost Sunday afternoon as the craft flew near the oil-industry city of Salekhard, about 2,000 kilometers (1,300 miles) northeast of Moscow, the Transport Ministry said in a statement. Three Emergency Situations Ministry helicopters searched the region where the craft disappeared on Sunday but poor weather forced searchers to call their flights off, the ministry said. Russian news agencies said poor weather conditions and bad visibility may have caused the helicopter to go down.
