Secretary General of Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsan Oglu underscored the importance of non-imposition of cultures on others, describing the cultural diversification in OIC as one of its major characteristics. In an address before the opening session of the ministerial meeting of the non-aligned movement member states, Oglu called for forging a program recognizing more understanding and coordination among cultures of the world. He said we ought not to work on the bases of national preference but ought to grant humanity full room to crystallize as it likes and at the same time preserve its cultural identity. He said intolerance of the other opinion and the one-sided concept of human rights developed to be a problem in the current time. He confirmed the status of human rights in Islam, saying that Islam was based on the principles of peace and amicability for others. He added that OIC has developed a number of ideas to preserve cultural diversification within itself.
