A magnitude 7.2 earthquake shook the seabed near Vanuatu early Thursday, the US Geological Survey said, according to dpa. The quake about 55 kilometres east south-east of Luganville, Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu occurred at 4:08 am (1708 GMT Wednesday) at a depth of 145 kilometres. No tsunami was expected to be generated from the quake, a statement said.
