A 7.5-magnitude earthquake rocked the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on Sunday, the US Geological Survey reported. The quake struck at a depth of 40 kilometres at 3:55 am (1655 GMT Saturday), 62 kilometres south-southwest of the capital Port Vila. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, dpa reported. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said there was "no destructive widespread tsunami threat," but added that earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis "that can be destructive along coasts located within 100 kilometres of the epicentre."
