Two people among a group of eight people, reported to be Russian nationals, were killed in a boating accident in southern Norway on Thursday, police said, according to dpa. The group had set out in a rubber dinghy and a kayak on the Sjoa river but were not part of an organized tour, duty officer Sten Gregersen told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa. The accident occurred along a stretch of the river in Gudbransdalen, some 350 kilometres north-west of the capital Oslo, that is popular among white-water rafters and known for its strong current and rapids. Two members of the group were initially rescued and four others reported missing were later found safe, Gregersen said, adding he had no information about the age or identities of the victims. Heavy rainfall in recent weeks has also raised water levels.
