Space Shuttle Atlantis was transported safely back to Cape Canaveral in Florida on Tuesday, more than one week after returning to Earth, according to dpa. The shuttle had been forced to land at Edwards Air Force Base in California on June 20 due to bad weather, which also hampered its return journey to Florida. Atlantis began its trip on Monday, piggybacked on a makeshift Boeing 747 aircraft, but only arrived at Cape Canaveral Tuesday due to refuelling stops and heavy rainfall over Florida. Atlantis and its six-member crew had returned to Earth following a two-week mission to the International Space Station.
