Three suspected robbers were killed on Monday in a pre-dawn shootout with police in the Philippine capital, an official said, according to dpa. The shootout erupted when the suspects opened fire at policemen chasing them after refusing to stop at a checkpoint in Quezon City in metro Manila. Two of the gunmen died on the spot, while the third suspect was declared dead on arrival at a nearby hospital. Police Chief Superintendent Errol Pan said the suspects were believed to be members of a criminal syndicate that steals vehicles and robs banks.
