Police detained 38 people following clashes between leftists and right-wing extremists in the east German city of Rostock during the night, a police spokesman said Sunday. Some 13 policemen and several troublemakers were injured in the disturbances, which took place on the fringe of a festival organized by city authorities. Rival groups fought with stones, bottles and firecrackers outside a store frequented by rightists before 200 police moved in with clubs to break up the violence. More than 100 people were involved in the clashes. Police said those detained would face charges of breach of peace, assault and resisting arrest, according to a report of Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA).
