Pakistan's Religious Affairs Minister Ijazul Haq has, in a letter, told German Ambassador to Islamabad Dr Gunter Mulack, currently holding the European Union Presidency, that Britain's award of knighthood to blasphemer Salman Rushdie not only demands an apology from London but also de-knighting him. The letter has been written in response to a communication of the German diplomat to Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani, seeking clarification of remarks made by Haq in the National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) about Rushdie. "The problem is that a Muslim, no matter how enlightened or moderate he is, would not tolerate any remarks against the Holy Quran and the Prophet (PBUH) and knighthood of Rushdie has hurt the feelings of the Muslims across the globe," the letter said.
