Jordan's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 5.9 per cent in the first quarter of the year, the Statistics Department said Wednesday, according to dpa. The Department put the country's GDP in the first three months of the year at 2.513 billion dinars (3.5 billion dollars) compared with 2.225 billion dinars in the same period of 2006. Jordan's inflation rate almost doubled in the first quarter of 2007, hitting 8.2 per cent compared with 4.4 per cent a year earlier. The country's unemployment rate rose to 14.3 per cent from 13.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2006, the Department said. -SPA
