Jordan's foreign trade deficit grew by 12.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2010 despite double-digit growth in exports, official statistics Wednesday showed, dpa reported. The Department of Statistics put the trade gap at 1.209 billion dinars (1.7 billion dollars), compared with 1.077 billion dinars in the first quarter of 2009. The figure came despte an 11 per cent rise in exports and re- exports, to 1.183 billion dinars. Imports rose 6.4 per cent from the first quarter of 2009, to 2.392 billion dinars. Saudi Arabia, Jordan's main supplier of oil, topped the list of exporters to the Jordanian market, followed by China, the United States and Germany. -- SPA
