DR. AHMED BIN ABDULJABBAR ALYAMANI, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF COMPUTER ENGINEERING AT DHAHRAN-BASED KING FAHD UNIVERSITY FOR PETROLEUM AND MINERALS, HAS BEEN AWARDED U.S. PATENT CERTIFICATE FOR HIS NEW METHOD TO DESIGN ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS IN A WAY THAT FACILITATES SELF OR EXTERNAL TESTING. IN A STATEMENT, DR. ALYAMANI SAID THE INVENTION REDUCES THE COST OF THE REQUIRED MEMORY AND THE NECESSARY COMMUNICATION CHANNELS FOR TESTING BY 90 PERCENT AND ALSO REDUCES THE TEST TIME AND POWER USED IN IT BY 50 PERCENT. HE QUOTED OFFICIALS AT L. S. I. LOGIC, THE U.S. COMPANY FINANCING THE PROJECT AS SAYING THE INVENTION SAVES $ 1.6 MILLION ANNUALLY OF THE COST OF TESTING ELECTRONIC SLIDES, NOTING THAT EACH OF DR. MICHAEL GERNICH AND DR. ERICK SCHMULLER HAVE TAKEN PART IN THE STUDY. DR. YAMANI, A GRADUATE OF KING FAHD UNIVERSITY FOR PETROLEUM AND MINERALS, HAS OBTAINED HIS DOCTORATE DEGREE IN ELECTRIC ENGINEERING AND MASTERS IN ADMINISTRATION FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF STANFORD AND JOINED THE UNIVERSITY OF STANFORD AS PART-TIME PROFESSOR.
