The National Liberation Front party, which has dominated Algerian political life since independence in 1962, kept its leading position by winning the most seats in parliamentary elections, the Interior Ministry said Friday. The party, known by the abbreviation FLN, took 136 seats in the 389-seat lower house, or 36 less than in the last elections. Two FLN-allied parties gained seats in Thursday's balloting, which had a feeble turnout of just 36.5, the ministry said.
