At least four suspected insurgents were killed in a gun battle with soldiers in India-administered Kashmir on Sunday, officials said. In a joint operation, soldiers from the Rashtriya Rifles, an anti- insurgency unit of the Indian Army, and the local police shot dead the suspected insurgents in the Lolab area of Kupwara district, 150 kilometres north-west of the state capital Srinagar. "The gun-battle erupted after the militants fired on security personnel who were carrying out search operations in the area," army spokesman Colonel AK Mathur was quoted as saying by DPA.
