Two people died when a twin-engined light aircraft came down in the southern Austrian state of Carinthia on Sunday, the Austrian news agency APA reported. The six-seater Piper aircraft had taken off from Ingolstadt in the German state of Bavaria and was headed for Klagenfurt, the capital of Carinthia. The two aboard are thought to have been Germans, dpa reported. According to reports, the engines failed shortly after noon and the aircraft crashed into a hillside near the town of Feldkirchen. Rescue officials said thick mist hung over the area at the time of the accident, probably contributing to the accident and also hindering efforts to find the wreck in difficult terrain. It was not clear whether the pilot was heading for the nearby airport of Klagenfurt or was attempting to overfly the mountains around Lake Ossiach.
