The ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) will host the fifth International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) in October 2008. The members of ICAPP s Standing Committee took this decision in a meeting in Seoul, PML Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed said. He attended the meeting. He told the reporters that the conference brought together over 100 political parties from Asian countries every two years. Previously, the ICAPP conferences had been held in Manila in 2000, in Bangkok 2002, in Beijing 2004 and Seoul in 2006. Pakistan was among five contenders for the 2008 conference apart from India, Indonesia, Iran and Turkey. Sayed termed the decision a great honour for Pakistan, saying the moot would coincide with the centennial celebrations of Asia s second oldest political party as well as 60 years of the independence of Pakistan.
