WORLD FOOD PROGRAM WELCOMED THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA'S DONATION OF ONE MILLION DOLLARS TO SUPPORT ITS OPERATIONS IN GUINEA AFTER THE INCREASED HUMANITARIAN NEEDS OF REFUGEES THERE. A STATEMENT DISTRIBUTED BY THE PROGRAM'S BUREAU IN CAIRO TODAY SAID THE PROGRAM IS PROVIDING IN GUINEA FOOD RATIONS TO ABOUT 20 THOUSAND REFUGEES FROM LIBERIA AND COTE D'IVOIRE IN ADDITION TO HELPING THOUSANDS TO RETURN TO LIBERIA SINCE PEACE WAS RESTORED IN THE COUNTRY. THE STATEMENT EXPLAINED THAT THE REFUGEES WHO FLED LIBERIA AND COTE D'IVOIRE ARE AN ADDITIONAL BURDEN FOR THE DETERIORATING ECONOMY IN GUINEA.
