At least 65 passengers were missing after a boat capsized in India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh, DPA QUOTED officials as saying Friday. The accident happened on the Krishna river more than 110 kilometres south-west of state capital Hyderabad on Thursday as villagers were returning from a local fair. The locally-manufactured boat sank as it was overcrowded and carrying more than 80 passengers though it had a sanctioned capacity of carrying 35 people, the IANS news agency reported. Officials said that while 18 people were either rescued or swam to safety, the missing passengers might have drowned since more than 18 hours had lapsed since the accident took place. But the state police maintained that 40 people were missing. "According to our information, 15 people were drowned, while 40 are missing. Fifteen others were rescued or swam to safety," MS Shankar, the chief spokesman of the Andhra Pradesh police said.
