The death toll was expected to rise following a fatal boat crash that claimed at least seven people over the weekend, reported the Kenyan Red Cross Monday. More than a dozen were missing following the sinking of an overloaded boat ferrying passengers from the island of Lamu to mainland Kenya, the Red Cross stated. The vessel collided with another boat carrying oil drums in the darkness around 9 pm (1800 GMT) on Sunday night, the organization said. It was reportedly carrying 82 passengers. It said 25 people were rescued and 23 swam to safety after the accident. Fifteen of those were hospitalized. By late Monday, no more passengers had been rescued, and Red Cross officials indicated it was a case of waiting for more bodies to surface, dpa reported.
