A rebel group has killed at least 40 migrant workers and wounded 30 more in a series of indiscriminate attacks in northeastern India, police said Saturday. Assam state's Inspector Gen. of Police Khagen Sharma said separatist group was behind the night attacks, although there was no immediate claim of responsibility. Most of the victims attacked were migrant fisherman and day laborers, the Associated Press reported. "These people were the softest possible targets," Sharma said, adding that the attacks happened in remote areas with scattered police presence.
