THE NUMBER OF DAMS IN THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA, UP TO THE END OF THE FIRST QUARTER OF 1427, AMOUNTED TO 230: 60 IN RIYADH REGION, 27 IN MAKKAH REGION, 16 IN MADINAH REGION, 65 IN ASSIR REGION, 17 IN HAIL REGION, 26 IN BAHA REGION, 6 IN NAJRAN REGION, 4 IN QASSIM REGION, 3 IN JAZAN REGION, 3 IN JOAF REGION, 2 IN TABUK REGION AND 1 IN THE NORTHERN BORDERS REGION, SAID A REPORT ISSUED BY THE MINISTRY OF WATER AND ELECTRICITY. THE REPORT POINTED OUT THAT THE DAM OF KING FAHD BIN ABDULAZIZ IN BISHA VALLEY HAS A STORAGE CAPACITY OF MORE THAN 325 MILLION CUBIC METER. THE REPORT SAID THE MINISTRY OF WATER AND ELECTRICITY HAS BEEN GIVING A GREAT ATTENTION TO THE DAMS DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY POSITIVELY CONTRIBUTE TO MAKING DRINKING WATER AVAILABLE AND DUE TO THEIR ROLE IN BOOSTING THE GROUND WATER WHICH IS USED FOR AGRICULTURAL PURPOSES. THE MINISTRY HAS BEEN CONDUCTING STUDIES PERTAINING TO THE BUILDING DAMS IN THE VARIOUS PARTS OF THE KINGDOM.
