Police on Friday arrested 33 people for setting on fire two trains and nearly 100 buses in western India during protests by low-caste groups enraged by desecration of their leader's statue. Violence across Maharashtra state left two people dead and 40 injured on Wednesday and Thursday, police said. Curfew was lifted Friday on three districts as life in Maharashtra state returned to normal with people ignoring a strike call by the Republican Party of India, the Associated Press reported.
