The three children were killed when the bomb they brought onto the porch of their house in the village of Sangranti in the eastern Nepal district of Tehrathum, about 250 kilometres east of the capital, exploded on Thursday afternoon. Kantipur Television, quoting the chief government officer in the district, said the children might have brought home the bomb thinking it to be a toy. Nepalese rights activists have been campaigning against the use of land mines by the Maoists and the Nepalese army during the 10-year-long armed Maoist insurgency. The deaths of the three small children were the first reported violent fatalities since the signing of a peace accord between the ruling Seven Party Alliance and Maoist rebels early Wednesday.
