The Maoist toll in the abortive attack on a security base camp in west Nepal Thursday could exceed 200, state-run Nepal Television reported Saturday. The television showing visuals of the fallen Maoists said the bodies of 96 Maoists were recovered up to Saturday afternoon, and the count could increase as the search operation was still in progress. The Nepalese army foiled a Maoist attack Thursday evening on a joint security base camp in Khara in Rukum district, about 350 kilometres west of the capital. The Nepalese security personnel suffered three dead and several wounded in the clash. Security sources said over 4,000 Maoists came in to attack the security camp located in one of the more remote mountain areas of Nepal. According to information provided by the Nepalese army's public relations office, the Maoists began the attack at 5:30 p.m. local time and the ensuing clash lasted over 12 hours. --More 2313 Local Time 2013 GMT
