Jordan and Germany on Thursday signed an agreement under which the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GZA) will implement a new water management programme over the coming nine years, according to statements by the government and the German embassy, DPA reported. Jordanian Planning Minister Suhail al-Ali and the German ambassador to Jordan Klaus Burkhardt exchanged memorandums to this effect during an official ceremony. The new programme, costing 9.7 million euros, aims at "assisting all institutions in the Jordanian sector to solve the core problem of inefficient use of limited water resources in agriculture and drinking water supply", the German embassy said in a statement. The GTZ, has been working in Jordan for more than 30 years to help the country exploit its limited water resources in an efficient manner. "Together with its Jordanian partners, the GTZ is now concentrating its efforts on promoting the sustainable use and integrated management of the precious water resources in Jordan," the German embassy statement said. During the ceremony, the Jordanian minister praised the "special ties" existing between Jordan and Germany and said her government was keen on boosting bilateral cooperation with Berlin in all spheres.
