The grenade was thrown at a police vehicle that had stopped in a busy market in Sopor, a town about 50 kilometers (30 miles) north of Srinagar, the summer capital of India's Jammu-Kashmir state, local police chief Viplav Kumar said. Four officers and at least 20 civilians were hurt in the blast, Kumar said. Eight of the civilians were in a serious condition and had been taken to Srinagar for treatment, he said. One of the wounded was declared dead on arrival at Srinagar's main hospital, said Manzoor Ahmed, a doctor there. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, the Associated Press reported.
