An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit northwestern Algeria, the country's national radio said Friday. There were no reported injuries or damage, according to AP. The quake's epicenter was in Mechraa Asfa, a village about 35 kilometers (22 miles) south of the northwestern city of Tiaret, the radio said, citing Algeria's Center for Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics. The quake hit Thursday night, causing residents to leave their homes for several hours.
