A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.8 shook Greece's western islands early Tuesday, but no damage or injuries were reported. Thessaloniki's Aristotle University reported the temblor, which occurred at 1:49 a.m. (2249 GMT Monday), had its epicenter below the seabed southwest of the island of Cephallonia in the Ionian island chain, about 300 kilometers (185 miles) northwest of Athens. The university said the quake was followed by a series of minor tremors. Greece is one of the world's most seismically active countries.
