Iraqi President Jalal Talabani received the letters of accreditation for the new ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Baghdad on Saturday, the dpa reported. The German government's appointment of Martin Cobler as its ambassador to Baghdad came amidst Talabani's calls for German businesses to invest in Iraq with the offer of special incentives. Cobler said he would seek to strengthen bilateral relations between Germany and Iraq, together with the provision of assistance to the Iraqi government. The German ambassador also announced his country's intention to help in the training of Iraq's national police forces.
