THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA AND EGYPT WILL SIGN NEXT MONTH A CONTRACT FOR STUDYING ELECTRIC POWER GRID PROJECT BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES WITH THE CONSULTING OFFICE WHICH HAS WON THE INTERNATIONAL TENDER EARLIER ANNOUNCED BY THE TWO COUNTRIES, REPORTED THE CAIRO-BASED AL-AHRAM NEWSPAPER TODAY. THE PROJECT AIMS AT REALIZING INTEGRATION AMONG THE ARAB ELECTRIC POWER GRID SYSTEMS SO AS TO HAVE AN IDEAL UTILIZATION OF ELECTRICITY. THE PAPER QUOTED EGYPTIAN MINISTER OF ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY HASSAN YUNIS AS SAYING THAT THE BELGIAN OFFER HAS BEEN CHOSEN AMONG NINE BIDS PRESENTED BY INTERNATIONAL COMPANIES WHICH HAVE EXPERIENCE IN THIS FIELD. HE NOTED THAT THE BELGIAN CONSULTING OFFICE, AFTER SIGNING THE CONTRACT, WILL CONDUCT FIELD STUDIES AND MAKE THE REQUIRED SURVEYS TO SELECT THE MOST SUITABLE PATH FOR THE GRID LINE. THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA AND EGYPT WILL SHARE THE COST OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECT. HASSAN YUNIS SAID THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT OF THE ELECTRIC POWER GRID PROJECT BETWEEN THE KINGDOM AND EGYPT WILL PAVE THE WAY FOR INTEGRATION AMONG THE ELECTRICITY NETWORKS OF MOST OF THE ARAB COUNTRIES. HE POINTED OUT THAT CURRENTLY EGYPT IS LINKED WITH SYRIA, JORDAN, LIBYA. TUNISIA, ALGERIA AND MOROCCO.
