The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of countries, which have taken effective measures in combatting smoking, according to Minister of Health Dr Hamad Al-Manei. In a statement issued here today on the international smoking day which falls Wednesday, Dr Al-Manei said Royal orders were issued to prevent smoking at the governmental offices and to prevent advertising for cigarettes at the audio-visual media organs in addition to imposition of high taxes on imported tobacco. Dr Al-Manei said intensive efforts are underway to combat smoking and to improve preventive measures against it, adding that anti-smoking awareness programs are carried out in all parts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He noted that there are more than 55 clinics throughout the Kingdom for combatting smoking. Dr Al-Manei urged various categories of the society to positively contribute to supporting the campaign of the health ministry for combatting smoking.
