Pakistan's exports during July-January period of current fiscal year 2005-06 were recorded at $9.303 billion, showing 21.3% increase over the exports worth $ 7.67 billion realized in like period of previous fiscal year. According to official trade figures, the exports during the month of January 2006 totaled at $1.23 billion as against $1.148 billion achieved in the same period of last fiscal year, showing 7.1 percent increase. The exports worth $1.23 billion realized in the month of January 2006 are, however, down by 16.3 percent when compared with the exports worth $1.47 billion achieved in December 2005. During the first seven months of current fiscal year (July-January), the imports also witnessed 50.1 percent growth to $15.8 billion from $10.528 billion of the same period of last financial year. The imports in January 2006 were recorded at $2.145 billion, witnessing an increase of 33.2 percent over imports worth $1.61 billion realized in the corresponding month of last fiscal year. However, the imports worth $2.145 billion realized in January 2006 witnessed 13.3 percent decrease when compared with $2.475 billion imports achieved in December 2005. The trade deficit declined to $ -0.916 billion in January 2006 from $ -1.005 billion in December 2005. However, the balance of trade, which was at $2.858 billion during July-January period of fiscal year 2004-05, reached to $ -6.497 billion during July-January period of current fiscal year.
