Minister of education Dr Abdullah al-Obeid said the World scouts camp, which is currently in progress here, aims at enabling its participants to get acquainted with civilizations and cultures, and enable the youth of the world to get acquainted with the development attained in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in various sectors, notably in the field of industry. In a press statement yesterday, Dr al-Obeid expressed sorrow and grief over vicious campaigns launched against the Kingdom following the incidents of Sept 11, 2001. He noted that about 1,800 scout cadets from 90 countries are participating in the camp in addition to thousands of people who are participating through the internet. "The camp provide us with a good opportunity to project Islam in its proper manner, and to assure that Islam isn't a religion of violence, extremism, terrorism or blood shedding, but it is a religion of civilization, progress and construction. It is also a religion of peace, love, cooperation, dialogue and understanding." Dr al-Obeid lauded the unlimited support extended by Saudi officials to the camp, and said 'let us work together to protect the youth from deviant ideas'.
