The Danish government said on Tuesday it planned to double the number of its troops in Afghanistan during 2006, according to Reuters. Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen told journalists that NATO-member Denmark's military contingent would increase from 178 to 360 Danes. Last month NATO foreign ministers approved plans for an expanded Afghan peacekeeping force which would allow Washington to cut U.S. troop levels there. Fogh Rasmussen said Denmark's involvement in Afghanistan would be discussed with Afghan President Hamid Karzai when he visits Denmark from January 28 to 29.
