Quds city, Jan 3, SPA -- Israeli police detained a Palestinian politician at the entrance to Al-Quds walled Old City on Tuesday and questioned him on suspicion of illegally campaigning for upcoming parliamentary elections. Police spokesman Shmuel Ben-Ruby said independent campaigner Mustafa Barghouti, a West Bank resident, was stopped at the Old City's Damascus Gate and taken for questioning at police headquarters. Tuesday was the first day of campaigning for Palestinian parliamentary elections scheduled for Jan.25, although Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas says he is considering postponing the poll if Israel refuses to allow the approximately 220,000 Palestinians in east Al-Quds city to vote, according to a report of the Associated Press.
