The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsan Oglu, expressed his concern over the tension witnessed recently in the relations between Sudan and Chad, calling on the Sudanese and Chadian governments to demonstrate self-restraint and to calm the situation, in the wake of the unexpected disturbance that has dominated the common frontiers and that has been accompanied by serious threats of a possible breakout of an armed conflict. In a press release issued here today, the OIC Secretary General appealed to both countries, member states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, to resort to common sense and mature reflection to resolve this passing conflict through peaceful and brotherly ways by way of positive dialogue and negotiation. He recalled that the Islamic world is living through the sacred months of the year and has only just wrapped up an Extraordinary Islamic Summit that urged for genuine brotherhood, cooperation and mutual support so as to achieve unity of ranks and promote intra-Islamic solidarity.
