Prince Turki al-Faisal, the Saudi ambassador to the US, on behalf of Riyadh-based King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, has received a copy of documentary "Franklin films" from Joe Franklin. Prince Turki described the documentary "Franklin films" as a valuable gift to the Saudi people. The value of the 120-hour "Franklin films" is estimated to be $45 million. It is worth mentioning that Mrs Franklin toured the Middle East between 1980 and 1994 and prepared "Franklin films" which were recently telecast by the BBS Network. These films include the films of 'Saudi 1981', 'The Kingdom of Oil 1983', 'Days of Fury', 'the Palestinian Youth 1989', 'Islam' and 'Civilization and Arts 1994'. Mrs Franklin underlined the importance of links among various world civilizations, and said such links would enhance understanding among the nations of the world'. 'I think that King Faisal Center shares with me this idea', she said. She pointed out that the great libraries which earlier existed in the ancient Muslim world, namely the libraries of Alexandria, Baghdad and Cordova have disappeared, but luckily King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies has been working to revive that great heritage'. It is worth mentioning that King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies includes more than one million rare books and manuscripts in addition to audio-visual materials at four libraries. The center is considered as the major reference in the world for studies pertaining to the Islamic civilization.
