Tropical Storm Delta threatened only shipping interests Saturday as it weakened further in the central Atlantic. The 25th named storm of the record-breaking Atlantic hurricane season had top sustained winds of 50 mph (80 kph), down from 60 mph (97 kph) Friday. At 4 a.m. EST (0900GMT), Delta was centered about 1,320 miles (2,100 kilometers) southwest of the Azores Islands and was moving east near 6 mph (9 kph), according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Tropical storm-force winds extended up to 145 miles (230 kilometers) from its center. The storm was expected to turn northeast later Saturday and weaken more, the Associated Press reported.
