U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan "strongly condemned" the latest terrorist attacks in Iraq yesterday, including a hotel bombing in Baghdad and two suicide bombings at mosques in Khanaqin, U.N. deputy spokeswoman Marie Okabe said today. "These criminal acts against innocent civilians are also aimed at fostering divisions among the Iraqi people," Okabe told reporters, adding that no cause can justify the indiscriminate use of violence, especially "in which innocent civilians are the principal victims." Annan extended his condolences to the families of the victims, Okabe said.
