U.S. stocks closed higher on Friday after the Nasdaq got a boost from a jump in shares of Gilead Sciences Inc. tied to avian flu fears and the broad market got a slight lift from data showing smaller-than-forecast job losses in September. Based on the latest available data, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 5.21 points, or 0.05 percent, to end at 10,292.31. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 4.41 points, or 0.37 percent, to finish at 1,195.90. The technology-laced Nasdaq Composite Index was up 6.27 points, or 0.30 percent, to close at 2,090.35. For the week, the Dow average fell 2.6 percent, while the broad S&P 500 dropped 2.7 percent, and the Nasdaq declined 2.9 percent.
