German Interior Minister Otto Schily signed Saturday an agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to combat crime, terrorism, criminal activities, money laundering and car theft, dpa reported. The agreement was signed in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, between Schily and his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Saif ben Zayed Al Nahyan. The ten-page document includes training of UAE police in Germany and exchange of information between the two countries. The agreement also includes introducing International Civil Aviation Organization standards by using smart cards and chips in passports to facilitate travel between the two countries. Schily pointed out the importance of synchronizing information between the two countries to stop crime. He said Germany hoped the agreement would cover all types of crime, including organized crime and human trafficking. For his part, Sheikh Saif said the agreement crowns the cooperation with German police which started in 1980. --More 2341 Local Time 2041 GMT
