A U.S. soldier was killed during fighting in northern Iraq, the U.S. military said. A military statement said the Task Force Olympia soldier was hit Thursday by small arms fire during "combat operations" in the city of Mosul, 360 kilometers (225 miles) northwest of Baghdad. The soldier's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
