A delegation of Saudi Arabia's Shoura (Consultative) Council, led by the Council's Assistant Chairman Dr Saleh bin Saud Al-Ali, arrived here on Saturday to participate in the second international conference for Speakers of Parliaments, due to be organized here on Sept 7-9, 2005. It is worth mentioning that the Saudi Shoura Council has officially joined the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) which comprises 140 member states. The conference will provide the Untied Nations with a comprehensive perspective on the role of parliaments in enhancing the international cooperation for attaining security and peace as well as ensuring human rights within the framework of the agreements approved by the international community. The participants of the conference will review the positive role of the parliaments in the international affairs and the parliamentary dimensions in the process of democracy.
