A three-storey building collapsed in India's financial hub early Monday, killing at least six people barely a week after the collapse of a residential apartment that killed 11, Xinhua news agency said, quoting a report by the Indo-Asian News Service, Bernama reported. Over 10 people were injured in the collapse of the building at around 1 a.m. in south Mumbai's Marine Lines neighbourhood, it quoted police officers as saying. All the injured have been hospitalized. Mumbai Police and civic agencies launched a massive rescue operation to look for possible survivors soon after the collapse of the building. Authorities say at least 15 people have been rescued from under the debris. Every year many of this city's dilapidated buildings collapse during the rains due to poor construction. Eleven people were killed and several injured after a four- storey building collapsed in south-central Mumbai on Aug. 23. The collapse of the building, which was 125 years old, was notified as dangerous by the civic authorities.
