The winners of the 2005 Nobel Prizes will be announced in early October, the Nobel Foundation said Thursday. The Nobel prize in physiology or medicine will be announced October 3. The physics prize will be announced October 4, while the chemistry prize will be announced October 5. The economics prize, known formally as the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in memory of Alfred Nobel, will be announced October 10. The economics prize was first awarded in 1969, almost six decades after the establishment of the other five prizes in 1901. The peace prize will be announced October 14 in Oslo, Norway. True to tradition, the Royal Swedish Academy has not set a date yet for the literature prize announcement, the Nobel Foundation said. Likely dates for the literature prize were October 6 or 13. Created in 1900, the foundation manages the assets bequeathed by Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite. Each prize this year will be worth 10 million kronor (1.3 million dollars). The prize ceremonies will be held on December 10, the anniversary of Nobel's death. The peace prize will be handed out in Oslo, while the other prizes will be handed out in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. --SP 1421 Local Time 1121 GMT
